Box Score 3 MESA, AZ. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team will be bringing back their third place trophy from Mesa, Arizona along with having two players, sophomore guard
Tre' Thomas (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS) and freshman guard
Haneef Vaughn-Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution HS) named to the All-Tournament Team.
On day one of the tournament, the Panthers were matched up against #24 ranked Salt Lake Community College. The Panthers came out with a close victory 77-75 on Monday night led by
Kelvin Howard (Temple Hills, Md./Dematha HS) who scored 18 points.
BCCC led by as many as 11 after
Brendon Smith (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) converted an and-one opportunity with a lay-up and a free-throw with 12:22 remaining in the game.
The Panthers led the whole second half and with their lead cut to one with 1:28 to go, Thomas drained a three-pointer to give his team a four point margin at 75-71.
With the score 75-73 in favor of the Panthers, Howard stole the ball and helped seal the win by knocking down two clutch free-throws with 0:04 seconds left on the clock.
Thomas ended the game with 16 points and
Chad Andrews-Fulton (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution HS) had 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
On Tuesday night, BCCC faced the vaunted South Plains College Texans and loss 83-65. After trailing at the half 36-26 the Panthers cut the lead to one (42-41) on a lay-up by Vaughn-Wilson
with 15:34 in the second half.
The Panthers would be on the bad end of a 26-7 run over the next 8:00 which put the game away for the Texans.
In the last day of the Tournament the Panthers played in the third place game and which they defeated Lee College 90-83.
Thomas and Vaughn-Wilson led the way scoring 23 and 21 points respectively. Andrews-Fulton also scored in double figures with 18 points while grabbing seven rebounds.
The Panthers defense forced 18 turnovers and finished with 28 points off of those turnovers.
Thomas had a team-high eight boards in the game.
The Panthers will return to action in 2016 with three home games the first being on January 8
th at 7 p.m. against Garrett College.
General admission will be $5, $2 for BCPS and free admission for BCCC faculty, staff and students with valid I.D.
