Panthers Advance to Region XX Championship Game

Sophomore Chas Brown went 8-of-11 shooting 73% from the field on his way to scoring 20 points.

HAGERSTOWN, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team defeated Allegany College of Southern Maryland 86-64 on Friday night in Hagerstown, Md. The win advanced BCCC to the Region XX Championship game against Harford Community College.
 
BCCC only trailed for only 1:15 of the game and after that the rout was on.  
 
The Panthers (18-11) used an early 14-2 run to take control of the ballgame with their patent full court pressure to rattle the ball handlers of Allegany.  The Panthers were able to ward off each run that Allegany made and that was the story for the remainder of the game.
 
BCCC's defense in the second half did not let up and went on to  led by as many as 27 points. BCCC held Allegany to 34 percent from the field (24-of-70).
 
The Panthers forced 19 turnovers turning them into 27 points in the game and outrebounded their opponent 56-40. The Panthers grabbed 20 offensive boards and had 19 second chance points. The Panthers scored 60 points in the paint and outscored Allegany 16-2 in fast break points.  
 
Allegany was led by, James Bazemore with 20 points and Billy Giles who posted a double-double recording a game-high 16 rebounds and scoring 15 points with five blocks in the game.
 
For the Panthers, Chas Brown (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic HS) had a double-double with a season-high 20 points and a team-high of 12 boards.
 
Tre' Thomas (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while also adding five steals and three assists. Wilmer Johnson (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) scored 11 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed seven rebounds in the game.  
 
 John Majors (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo HS) and DaJuan Dent (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills HS) combined for 24 points and 10 rebounds and Brian Kelley (Lanham, Md./Atlantic Shores) had a game-high nine assists to go along with his five points and three steals on the night.
 
The Championship game will be on Monday, March 2nd in the ARCC in Hagerstown, Md. at 7 p.m.  The Panthers won the previous game against Harford in early December 92-82.
