BALTIMORE, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team hosted the NJCAA District 3 Final in the P.E. Center on Saturday afternoon. BCCC were defeated by Monroe College 71-61 to end the season for the men's basketball team.

The Panthers have reached the District Final game the past two seasons.

In the first half the Panthers (19-12) held their own in front the Panther faithful in the see-saw battle that ensued in the first 17:00 of play. Both teams battled to gain momentum and put their imprint on the game and with 3:46 in the opening 20:00, the Panthers were down 29-24.

BCCC used a 10-0 run capped off by a tip-in by sophomore forward DaJuan Dent (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills HS) at the buzzer to end the half. BCCC went in with a 34-29 lead.

The Panthers carried over the momentum into the second half to extend the lead to 11 (40-29), by scoring the first six points in the second half, outscoring the Mustangs 16-0 from the 3:46 mark in the first half.

Monroe then put together a run of their own using a 14-3 run tying the game at 43. The last tie of the game came with 8:54 left in the game at 52. The Panthers found themselves trailing for the rest of the game as Monroe seemed to not miss from the field and the Panthers were not able to find the basket.

Monroe had three players in double figures, Joel Angus III led the way with 15 points and Will Tavares and Shackquiel Scott both scored 12 points apiece.

For the Panthers, Chas Brown (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic HS) posted a double-double matching his season-high in points with 20 and a game-high of 10 rebounds along with three blocks and three steals.

John Majors (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo HS) finished with 15 points and six boards and freshmen guard Khyree Hunt-Hawkins (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington HS) ended with 12 points going 3-of-6 from long range.
