BALTIMORE, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team tasted defeat for the first time in the MD JUCO on Friday night against Garrett College 68-57 in the P.E. Center.
 
It was a tale of two halves for the Panthers as they jumped out on the Lakers 9-2 and lead by as many as 11 (21-10) with Leonardo Ward (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams HS) splitting a pair of free-throws  with 8:39 left in the first 20:00 of play.
 
BCCC was outscored 21-12 to end the first half as their lead was cut to one 32-31 at halftime.
Both teams struggled from the field as BCCC shot 11-of-27 (40.7 percent) while holding Garrett to 11-of-34 (32.4 percent).
 
In the second half the Panthers fell to hold on to the lead as the Lakers carried over the momentum from the end of the first half scoring the first five points in the opening minutes. The Panthers would in turn trail the remainder of the second half after leading the whole first half.
 
The Panthers revisited their offensive woes with connecting on only 7-of-29 field goals for 24 percent in the second half.
 
Garrett was led by Sebastian Jean-Charles with a game-high 21 points and Jaffar Musa finished with a game-high of 11 rebounds while adding seven points.
 
For the Panthers, Mekhi Bryant (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury HS) scored a team-high 13 points and Tre' Thomas (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS) had 11 points on the night.
 
Chad Andrews-Fulton (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution HS) finished with nine rebounds, five points and three blocks and Ryan Trafton (Baltimore, Md./Heritage HS) contributed with eight boards, seven points and four blocks.
 
The Panthers will be home in the P.E. Center on Wednesday evening as they face Harford Community College for a 5 p.m. tip off.
 
General admission will be $5, $2 for BCPS and free admission for BCCC faculty, staff and students with valid I.D.
