Box Score 2 CUMBERLAND, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College men's and women's basketball team faced the Trojans of Allegany College of Maryland on Saturday afternoon in Bob Kirk Arena.
In the women's game, the Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Trojans of Allegany College 70-47.
Natasha Roy (Gambrills, Md./Arundel HS) led the team in scoring with 21 points to go with five rebounds and four assists.
She'cquan Bailey (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill HS) and
Alyn Sankar (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood HS) finished with double-doubles in the game with 20 points and a season-high 13 assists for Bailey and 11 points and 10 rebounds for Sankar.
Alexis Wade (Raleigh, N.C./Southeast Raleigh HS) ended the game with eight points, seven steals and five assists. Bailey also had seven steals in the game.
The win places the Lady Panthers with an 11-1 record in the MD JUCO conference for a second straight year and extends their winning streak to seven in a row going into tournament play.
In the men's game, the Panthers ran out of time in their late rally against the Trojans 68-65. Freshman guard
Fredrell Jenkins (New Orleans, La/JS Clark HS) scored 16 of his 24 points in a crucial stretch for the Panthers in the second half.
With the Panthers down 11 (45-34) with 10:35 remaining in the game Jenkins revived the Panthers offense. Jenkins scored the Panthers next 16 points to cut the deficit to seven 57-50 with just under 6:00 in the game.
The Panthers went on a 9-0 run to take a 59-57 lead with 3:24 left to play on a three-point shot by
Kelvin Howard (Temple Hills, Md./Dematha HS). Howard would tie the game for the last time at 62 apiece with 2:03 remaining before suffering defeat for the third time in conference play this year.
Jenkins ended the game with 24 points and seven rebounds and Howard had a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards.
Both teams will be in action for the MD JUCO Tournament as the #2 seeds as the top eight teams from the men and women will make the tournament. Games will start on the Thursday, February 11
th in McHenry, Md. at Garrett College in the CARC Gymnasium.
