BCCC Panthers survive Harford Fighting Owls 71-68

BEL AIR, MD -- The BCCC Panthers came out fired up and ready to play as they jumped to a quick ten point lead midway through the first half. Any dreams the Panthers had of turning this highly anticipated match-up into a blowout were quickly erased after an unbelievable 17-0 run by the Fighting Owls of Harford Community College left the Panthers trailing by seven, 18-25, with 6:35 remaining in the half. The two teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the first half and heading into the locker room Baltimore City Community College trailed Harford by one 33-34.

It may have been Terry Maczko's lineup change, it may have been the fact that they were playing their biggest rival for first place in the conference, whatever it was, the Panthers showed they were ready for the fight.

A quick 7-0 run to start the second half put the Panthers up 40-34 with 15:37 left to play. Five minutes later the Panthers would match their largest lead of the game with a 49-39 lead with 10:44 left to play in regulation. Still trailing by ten with just under six minutes left to play, Harford was ready to make one final run.

The Panthers lead had been cut to three with just 0:07 seconds left to play and Joe Adedayo at the line to seal the win. Unfortunately, Adedayo missed both free throws and Harford had a chance to send it to OT, but Khalil Williams-Diggins three-point attempt was no good and the Panthers held on for the 71-68 victory.

The win puts the Panthers (15-6, 8-1 MD JUCO) in sole possession of first place in the conference. The loss drops the Fighting Owls to 12-8, 7-2 in conference play.

Lelan Eackles led BCCC in scoring for the second game in a row with 17 points and added 6 rebounds. Ndongo Ndaw had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and also had 2 blocked shots. Ahmin Williams had another impressive game in his second career start with 13 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Randy Rickards was the last Panther to score in double-figures with 11 points and also had 2 steals.
