Box Score The Panthers won tonight. They defeated Garrett Community College by a razor thin 98-95. From the start, the Panthers led most of the game. In the first half they went on a 7-0 run and looked like the most consistent team. The built a double digit lead only to then go on a four minute and 20 second drought. Garrett came back and the rest of the first half went back and fourth. The Panthers managed to regain the lead when
Thomas Reid and
Carson Smith hit back to back three's late in the half. The Panthers went into half time with a six point lead, with the score 60-54.
The second half was much the same. The Panthers came out and took a double digit lead.
Carson Smith was the most consistent player on the court. His outside jumper was working, which opened up the lanes for a number of drives. He finished with 25 points on 7 of 11 shooting which included three 3 pointers and 6 of 9 at the charity stripe. He has lead the team in scoring for most of the year. In this game he was joined by a number of Panthers in the double figure scoring category.
David Harris had his highest scoring game this year with 13 points.
Thomas Reid put in 16 points and Jo Nathan Kelly contributed 12. In all, five Panthers scored in double figures when you include the 10 points from Freshmen
Malachi Plaskett.
Towards the end of the game, the Panthers had a 10 point lead with 7 minutes on the clock. They kept making silly touch fouls and allowed Garrett back into the game. With a minute on the clock a 9 point lead was dwindled down to 3 and Garrett had a chance to tie the game. The Panthers defense didn't allow Garrett to get the shot off and the loosing skid was over.
