Box Score The end wasn't pretty, but everyone loves a winner. The Panthers took on the Hawks of The College of Southern Maryland. The game was close in the first half until the Panthers took a double digit lead late on some bottom of the net three pointers by Sophomores David Harris, Thomas Reid, Carson Smith and Freshmen Jo-Nathan Kelly.. The team was helped by some good inside defense by Freshmen Darryl Roberts. He proved to be a problem for the visiting Hawks who didn't have anyone to match his intensity. The Panthers ended the second half with a 10 point lead.

The second half saw the Hawks play with more intensity early. In spite of that, the Panthers stayed true to their game plan. They moved the ball around the perimeter until they could find a seam to penetrate or kick back out for an open jumper. That worked so well the Panthers built their lead to as much as 17 points. At that point the battle to stay focused was the foe and not the Hawks. Turnovers and missed baskets underneath the basket proved costly. The Hawks started making shots and the game was tied with 2 minutes on the clock. The Hawks then took a two point lead with 5.4 seconds on the clock. With one last chance to either tie or win the game. A pass from David Harris to Carson Smith left him in the corner. With two defenders on him Carson Smith was able to run baseline a get up a floater that landed in the bottom of the net as the buzzer went off. The contest was tied at 99 points and a whole new ball game was about to start..

The overtime period of five minutes began and the Panthers were the first to score. The teams traded baskets and the intensity on the defensive end was heightened. Second shot chances were few. The Panthers were able to make a few stops with good defense that lead to a turnover and a go ahead basket by Jo-Nathan Kelly who finished the game with 31 points and 11 rebounds. He was matched in points by Carson Smith who also put up 31 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 4 assist. The Hawks fought to the end but couldn't make 3 pointers down the stretch. The Final score was 113-110. 

The next game for the Panthers is on the other side of the Christmas Break. The Panthers will take on Montgomery Community College January 7th at their Rockville campus. Game time is 1:30 pm.
