The Panthers men's basketball team notched it's first victory of the season tonight versus the Hawks of Anne Arundel Community College. The game was a bit sloppy at times and didn't showcase the natural talent that exist on the Panthers squad. However, the team showed tenacity. In spite of 19 turnovers and missing 12 out of 29 free throws, the team managed to stay in the lead most of the game. In the first half, the Panthers did a better job of executing their offense than the Hawks. They also took advantage of some sloppy passes by the Hawks and turned those steals and turnovers into points. They lead by as many as 9 in the first half, but let that lead slip away. The teams went into half time tied at 34.
The second half saw a lot of the same. The panthers were able to get a few threes to drop thanks to Sophomore Carlos Green. He along with Freshmen Marquise Delahaye sparked a run midway through the second half that saw the Panthers go up by as many as 13 points. The lead also matched the scores of both Green and Delahaye. That lead would be cut to 4 with two minutes left in the game. Fortunately, when things looked a little dicey the Panthers were able to use their defense to create enough offense to secure the lead and the game. The final score was 68-60. The team was lead in scoring by Carlos Green and Marquise Delahaye who both scored 13 points. Sophomore Zach Smith and Freshmen Blake Neverdon also score in double figures with 11 and 12 points respectively.
The Panthers next face Northern Virginia Community College this Friday at home. Game time is 7:00 pm. For those who can't make the game in person, it can be viewed via live stream.
