The Panthers of BCCC won its first ever forfeit this past Saturday. The team traveled down the road to the campus of Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville to take on Rhode Island Community College. The game started just as any other college basketball game. However, three quarters of the way through the contest, the coach of Rhode Island expressed his disagreement with some of the calls made by the referees. He was warned by one of the referees to calm down and to stop making certain comments about lack of fairness and the location of the game. This went on for a few minutes. During this time the Panthers were playing aggressively and were being rewarded for their efforts. They were pressing on defense and it was paying off. The team lead most of the first half. The referees were however blowing their whistles quite often. The Panthers saw a 10 point lead disappear after fouls called on the Panthers gave Rhode Island enough free throws to tie the game.
Once the whistles started blowing the other way, the Panthers were up by 8 points when the visiting team coach had enough. He abruptly called his players to the bench and informed the referees that "you got what you wanted" and walked off the court. The referee then asked "are you forfeiting the game". The coach's response was "Yes, were are out of here". The game ended with three minutes left in the first half and the Panthers up by 8 points. The referees awarded the Panthers the victory by forfeit.
