The Women's Volleyball team has returned to the Panther Athletic Program. Monday night the Lady Panthers took to the court for the first time since 2016. The team took on the Catamounts of Potomac State College from West Virginia. The night was exciting and filled with hope as new coach Shannell Thompson, introduced the team to the campus and the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association. Unfortunately the team did not win their inaugural contest, but showed tenacity and awful lot of potential. All but two of the Panthers are Freshmen. They are: Nakiya Burrell - Lake Clifton Reach Partnership HS , Tynasia Crawley - Connexions HS, Jabre Dawkins - Carver Vocational Tech HS, Zalthea Esquerra - Baltimore Poly HS, Joi McLaurin - ACCE HS, Makaylah Meekins - Carver Vocational Tech HS, Kyionna Merrick - Benjamin Franklin HS, Lakira Morris - Edmondson Westside HS, Gabrielle Parker - Mervo HS, Jada Parker - Benjamin Franklin HS, Adrianna Salazar Carver Vocational Tech HS, Lajai Washington - Edmondson Westside HS.
These new Panthers are looking forward to the challenge that will be the first year back for the program and understand there will be a learning curve. Coach Thompson spoke to the team before they went on the court and said "tonight is an opportunity to learn and grow as players and as a team. Don't be afraid, pay attention and swing". The team took the first lesson well and are looking forward to the next contest this Thursday, August 31 against Maryland Junior College Conference rival, Northern Virginia Community College. The game starts at 7:00 pm.
