Delahaye Leads Huge Comeback Win Over Potomac State

Keyser, WV – After a lackluster first half, the Baltimore City Panthers exploded for 66 points in the second half to come from behind and defeat the Potomac State Catamounts on the road by the score of 90-86. The Panthers improve to 8-7 on the season and break a four game losing streak as they head into a critical stretch of games ahead.

The first half did not go as planned for the Panthers with the exception of Marquise Delahaye scoring 12 first half points as the team shot 28% from the field in the first period. Trailing by 12 at halftime, the Panthers full court press began to create turnovers as the 14 point Catamounts lead in the second half slowly started to be whittled down.

The Panthers made a big run late in the second half as Delahaye continued to pour the points on and cut into the Catamounts lead. Deng made a nice spin move and banked a shot off the glass and in the make it a two point Potomac State lead with five minutes left.  Deng stole the ball away and made the layup to give Baltimore City their first lead of the game. After a Potomac State three pointer, Blake Neverdon answered back with a corner three of his own to give the Panthers the lead back with two minutes left.

After another Catamounts three to regain the lead, Deng made two free throws to tie it at 82-82. Another big steal by the Panthers led to a fast break layup by Deng to take the lead followed by great defense by Antonio Fliggins to force a turnover and get the ball back to Baltimore City. Fliggins was able to hit six straight free throws to close out the game and give the huge win to the Panthers.

Delahaye led the way with a 33 point, 12 rebound, 4 assist star of the game performance. Fliggins finished with 23 points and 4 assists while Deng scored 20 points on 8-12 shooting from the floor. Neverdon scored 9 points with 7 rebounds while Zach Smith added 5 points.

The Panthers will get a little time to rest before preparing for nearby rival Howard Community College on Friday, January 19 at 7 PM. The Howard Dragons are currently 14-5 on the year, but the Panthers have won the last seven meetings between the two teams and 10 of the last 12. Howard hasn't beaten Baltimore City since 2014 with the Panthers defeating the Dragons in their last meeting 80-77 in February 2023.
