Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Darryl Pope Ed.D

Panthers Lose to Howard Dragons

The Panthers season begins with a tough loss to the Dragons of Howard Community College. The Dragons are coming off a NJCAA Region 20 Division II Championship and looks to repeat. They were fast, sharp and determined to open their new facility with a win.
The Panthers started the game looking like a plan was in place. They forced the Dragons into turnovers and capitalized. They took an early lead with baskets by Sophomores Marquise Delahaye and Bryson Spruell. The Dragons made adjustments clogged the middle on the defensive end and charged the middle of the court on the offensive end. The teams went back and forth in the half with the Dragons taking a four-point lead into half-time.

The second half the Dragons adjusted their tempo and just attacked the basket off the dribble. They were able to make layups and get to the foul line. Their frenetic pace on offense and defense kept the Panthers from establishing anything consistent. They out-rebounded the Panthers and made fewer mistakes which made the difference in the game. The Panthers had 21 turnovers which led to 25 points for the Dragons. The Dragons however, had just 11 turnovers and gave up only 4 points to the Panthers.
The Panthers were led by Marquise Delahaye who led all scores with 17 points. He was joined in double figures by Freshmen Kuich Gatwech who scored 12 points.

This was the first game of the regular season for the Panthers. They are entering this years campaign with a team that is literally 75% new. There are four returners and 12 new student athletes. The team is coming together and looks to improve on last seasons record. The next game is Sunday November 3, at the PE Center of BCCC against the Shock of Washington Adventist College. The game starts at 3:00 pm.
