Panthers Stun Trojans 85-75

CUMBERLAND, MD - The Baltimore City Panthers came through with their biggest win of the season as they were able to pull off the huge upset over Allegany College of Maryland 85-75. The Trojans fall to 20-6 on the season and 1-1 in Region 20 Division I play while the Panthers get back to .500 at 12-12 and are 1-2 in regional play. This is the first win for the Panthers over a Division I team since the 2019 season.

Carlos Green started the game out on fire as he hit a trio of three pointers in the first six minutes of the game to get the Panthers out to a 16-10 lead. AlleganyĀ started to make a run of their own, but a couple of Green layups kept the Panthers in front as he scored 13 points in the first half. The Panthers went on another big run late in the first half as they scored eight straight points to take a 43-33 lead into halftime.Ā

The second half saw Allegany storm back quickly with an 8-0 run before Kut Deng made a tough layup to stop the momentum. Blake Neverdon slammed down a dunk and then hit a three pointer to ensure Baltimore City held onto the lead. Neverdon hit another three pointer midway through the first half after the Trojans cut Baltimore City's lead down to one followed by a Marquise Delahaye three pointer as the Panthers continued to shoot well from outside.Ā

Allegany took their first lead of the game with nine minutes left in the second half, but a 16-3Ā run of points in the paint for the Panthers capped off by a Joshua Bryant bucket shocked the Trojans. Antonio Fliggins was able to fly through the lane and earn another layup to cap another 6-0 run for Baltimore City as the Panthers completed the victory.

Delahaye led the way for Baltimore City with 24 points along with 7 rebounds. Green scored 15 points while Neverdon added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Zach Smith scored 13 points as he returned to the lineup while Fliggins scored 8. Deng scored 4 points, but added a team high 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Panthers will finally return home after eight straight road games as they take on Delaware Tech Saturday, February 17 at 3 PM. The Panthers just defeated Delaware Tech on the road on February 13 in a 71-58 victory for Baltimore City.
