BALTIMORE, MD — Baltimore City Community College put together its most complete performance of the season Wednesday night, but a late surge from visiting Chesapeake College sent the Panthers to a hard-fought 66–62 loss at the PE Center.
After trailing by nine at halftime, Baltimore City roared back with a dominant second half, outscoring the Skipjacks 37–32 behind improved ball movement, balanced scoring and timely defensive pressure. The Panthers tied the game twice in the final two minutes and briefly grabbed the lead, but Chesapeake responded with critical baskets down the stretch. The Panthers surged ahead with a huge go-ahead corner three by Baptiste Filippinni with 1:01 remaining, but the Skipjacks were able to come back and win the game on a last second layup.
Baltimore City's offense found rhythm after the break, shooting 51.6 percent from the floor and knocking down five second-half threes.
Jamari Seri delivered a standout performance with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Albatrit Syla added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench, while
Anthony Baker provided 9 points, 6 rebounds and a pair of steals in an all-around effort.
The Panthers' depth also gave them a lift. The bench contributed 23 points, highlighted by Syla's efficiency and Baptiste Filippinni's five points in 11 minutes.
Lebarron Gordon and Joriam Fabian Spee added valuable defensive minutes, combining for four steals and several key stops that fueled the second-half rally.
Despite the loss, Baltimore City held its own in nearly every major category, finishing with a higher shooting percentage, matching Chesapeake in fast-break points, and generating 22 points off turnovers. The Panthers' second-half surge even put them ahead 51–48 with 7:06 to play before the game swung back-and-forth in the closing minutes.
Chesapeake's Elisha Johnson-Dixon proved the difference, scoring a game-high 16 points and hitting two free throws with one second left to seal the win.
Baltimore City will look to bring their improvements in their next game at Harcum College on Friday, December 5 for a 2 PM tip off.
