BALTIMORE, Md. – Kimberly Walton recorded a double-double of 19 points and 25 rebounds, both game-highs, to help the Northern Virginia Community College women's basketball team to a 48-33 win over Baltimore City Community College on Saturday afternoon at the BCCC P.E. Center. Walton was 7-of-22 from the floor and added three steals and one block in 36 minutes.
NOVA (2-4) dominated the first half both offensively and defensively. The Lady Raiders outscored the Lady Panthers 25-9, forced 15 BCCC turnovers and won the rebounding battle 38-20 in the opening period.
BCCC (0-6) came out focused in the second half and outscored NOVA 24-23, but the Lady Panthers could not overcome the 16-point first-half deficit.
Tiffany Somuah added eight points and seven boards for NOVA, while Tiffany Bell and Lauren Amonett each grabbed seven rebounds.
Daryl Faulkner (Baltimore, Md./Edmonson-Westside HS) led BCCC in scoring for the second consecutive game with 18 points. Sheena Belton (Baltimore, Md./Edmonson-Westside HS) had a team-high eight rebounds.
The Lady Panthers travel to McHenry, Md. on Monday to play Garret College in their Maryland JUCO conference opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
