BALTIMORE, Md. – Denvor Clyde and Kashara Floyd each scored 10 points to lead the Chesapeake College women's basketball team to a 57-28 win over Baltimore City Community College on Wednesday night at the BCCC P.E. Center. Floyd added eight rebounds, while Clyde had seven.
Chesapeake (1-0) started the game on a 14-0 run, but BCCC (0-3) got on the board after a layup by Jamia Lawson (Baltimore, Md./Coppin Academy) with 6:20 left in the first half. A bucket by Sarah Hunt-Fofana (Bronx, N.Y./J.F.K. HS) with 1:42 left in the opening period cut the Skipjacks' lead to nine, 18-9.
Floyd hit a jumper at the buzzer to give Chesapeake a 21-13 lead at halftime.
The Skipjacks dominated the second half, outscoring the Lady Panthers 36-15 in the final 20 minutes.
Ashleigh Jones had eight points, 11 rebounds and three steals for Chesapeake.
For BCCC, Lawson and Shamera O'Neal (Baltimore, Md./Coppin Academy) each had five points. Lawson added a career-high 12 rebounds and O'Neal had six.
The Lady Panthers travel to Burlington, N.J. to take on Burlington CC on Saturday at 3 p.m.
