BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshmen Jamia Lawson (Baltimore, Md./Coppin Academy) and Sheborah Miller (Baltimore, Md./Coppin Academy) each tallied 11 points to lead the Baltimore City Community College women's basketball team to its second consecutive win of the season in a 57-36 victory over Globe Institute of Technology on Friday night in the 2011 BCCC Charm City Classic.
The Lady Panthers improved to 2-9 with the win, while the Knights fell to 1-5.
For the second straight game, BCCC led from beginning to end. The Lady Panthers led by as many as 15 points (31-16) in the first half. They limited GIT to just 18 points in each half.
In the second half, the Lady Panthers led by 22, 52-30, after a layup by Lawson with 5:59 left in the game.
Sharmane Rhodes led all players with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds. Bernadette Benitez added six points, eight rebounds and two blocks for GIT.
For BCCC, Shamera O'Neal (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern HS) had seven points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Lawson added six boards, four steals and two blocks.
The Lady Panthers return to action tomorrow night against Potomac State College at 8 p.m. Chesapeake College takes on GIT at 4 p.m. and Frederick CC plays Tidewater CC at 6 p.m.
Admission for the Charm City Classic is $5 per day. BCCC students, faculty and staff will be admitted for free with a valid ID.
