BALTIMORE, Md. – The Baltimore City women's basketball team went 2-2 over the winter break. They fell to Brunswick Community College (67-57) and Chattanooga State Community College (89-52) in the Brunswick Holiday Tournament and then opened the New Year with two conference wins over the College of Southern Maryland (64-45) and Garrett College (74-64).
The Lady Panthers are now 5-12 overall and 2-3 in MD JUCO play.
Against Brunswick CC, Jamia Lawson (Baltimore, Md./Coppin Academy), TaShay Smith (Baltimore, Md./Overlea HS), and Sarah Hunt-Fofana (Bronx, N.Y./JFK HS) each scored in double figures with 15, 13 and 11 points, respectively. In the Chattanooga State game, Nikita Brady (Baltimore, Md.) led the offense with 16 points.
Hunt-Fofana, Lawson and Smith combined for 31 of BCCC's 64 points in the win over Southern Maryland. Sophomore guard Chanel Paye (Baltimore, Md./Hammond HS) made her long-awaited debut in that game, but only had two points. She definitely made her presence known against Garrett by scoring a game-high 20 points. Smith and Shamera O'Neal (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern HS) each added 14 points.
The Lady Panthers look to continue their winning ways when they host Howard CC at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
