Harcum College Defeats BCCC Women 67-41

BALTIMORE, Md. – Raneka Dunaway scored a game-high 19 points and teammate Jazmin Johnson had 13 points to lead the Harcum College women's basketball team to a 67-41 win over Baltimore City Community College on Saturday afternoon in the 2012 BCCC Charm City Classic.
 
BCCC (2-9) started out the game on a 7-0 run. Harcum (2-6) did not score until the 13:44 mark in the first half when Johnson hit a layup. But the Lady Panthers kept their momentum going and jumped out to a 14-8 lead after one of two free throws by Aquira Nixon (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern HS) with 8:23 left in the half.
 
The Lady Bears slowly chipped away at the lead and got ahead (17-15) on a layup by Zakiya Garland with 4:26 left before half time. A pair of free throws by Garland sent Harcum into the break with a 24-22 lead.
 
The Lady Bears turned up their offense and defense in the second half. They scored outscored BCCC 43-21 in the final period and forced 11 Lady Panther turnovers. Twelve of Dunaway's 19 points came in the second half.
 
Garland finished with 10 points and three rebounds for Harcum while Damonique Carr and Joanessa Fequiere grabbed 14 and 13 rebounds, respectively.
 
For BCCC, Iman Scott (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown HS) just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Cindy Kolade (Ivory Coast/Western) added eight points, five rebounds and one block and Tashay Smith (Baltimore, Md./Overlea HS) had eight points four boards.  
 
The Lady Panthers wrap up tournament play tomorrow with a 4 p.m. matchup against Globe Institute of Technology.
