NORTH EAST, Md. – Brianna Thomas scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Cecil College women's basketball team to a 64-49 Maryland JUCO Conference win over Baltimore City Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Cecil College Gym.
BCCC (7-18, 4-8 MD JUCO) got on the board quickly after a layup by Nikita Brady (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern HS) just four seconds into the game. Thomas hit a 3-pointer at the 19:41 mark in the first half to put Cecil ahead 3-2 and give the Seahawks a lead they would hold on to for the rest of the game. The Seahawks went into halftime with a 37-23 lead.
Cecil led by as many as 21 points, 54-33, in the second half.
For Cecil, Shantia White had 11 points, while Erica McQuaide and Shanice Smith each contributed 10 points. Smith added a game-high 16 rebounds. Iesha Butler grabbed 11 rebounds and nine points.
Shamera O'Neal (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern HS) led BCCC with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Sarah Hunt-Fofana (Bronx, N.Y./JFK HS) and Brady also scored in double figures with 10 points each.
The Lady Panthers host Harford Community College for Sophomore Night on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. Sophomores Keyontay Dunaway (Baltimore, Md./Carver HS), Hunt-Fofana and Senteria Renwicks (Baltimore, Md./Landsdowne HS) will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony.
