MIAMI, Fla. – The Baltimore City Community College women's basketball team defeated Miami-Dade College 75-70 on Tuesday night at the Gibson Center. The Lady Panthers have their first victory over a Division I opponent of the season.
The Lady Panthers are 7-4 and are currently on a four-game winning streak.
BCCC took an early 8-3 lead before Miami-Dade College (3-10), tied the game up at 10 all with 15:29 in the opening half. There were eight lead changes in the first half the last coming at the 2:27 mark in the first half, as BCCC took the lead 36-34, on a lay-up by
Tache Smothers (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim HS).
The Lady Panthers did not trail for the rest of the game and went into halftime leading 43-35.
In the second half, the Lady Panthers led by as many as 11 (57-46), with 14:07 remaining in the game. The Lady Panthers answered every run made by the Lady Sharks with a spurt of their own to hold on for the victory.
For the Lady Sharks, Alexis Ungro had a game-high 22 points and added seven rebounds.
Channel Davis finished with 15 points and seven rebounds and Vernessa Hinnant had 14 points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks.
Shamera O'Neal (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern HS) had her first double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds to along with a game-high 6 steals and
Iman Scott (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) continued her streak of double-doubles alive with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while adding four blocks.
She'cquan Bailey (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill HS) finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Panthers will be travel to Ft. Lauderdale to take on Broward Community College on Thursday December 19
th for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
