Baltimore, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College women's basketball team defeated Harford Community College 75-73 on Thursday night at the P.E. Center. The Lady Panthers are currently on a 10-game winning streak.
The win puts the Lady Panthers in a second place tie in the MD JUCO with a 7-1 record.
Aneja Kemp (Norfolk, Va./Maury HS) went the full length of the court with 5.7 seconds left in the game for a lay-up at the buzzer to win the game.
It was a tough first half as both teams finished the first half in a tie at 31 apiece.
The second half was more the same, as BCCC (13-4) and Harford (16-5, 8-2), traded the lead for majority of the game. Harford led by eight (63-55), with 6:30 remaining in the game.
The Lady Panthers got back into the game by turning up the defensive intensity with a raucous crowd behind them. After a
Nikita Brady (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern HS) three-pointer, the lead was cut to two (70-68) with 1:30 left.
The Lady Owls, went 3-of-4 at the line to finish the game and
She'cquan Bailey (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill HS) converted an and-one and made all three of her free-throws on the way to the game-winning basket.
BCCC was able to hold the edge in rebounds (22-21), steals (8-6) and turnovers (11-14).
For Harford, Capree Garner had game-highs of 26 points and 14 rebounds. Ashley Smith scored 19 points and Dasha Moore ended the game with 18 points.
For BCCC, Bailey had 18 points and seven assists and
Jamia Lawson (Baltimore, Md./Coppin Academy) finished with 17 points and seven boards.
Iman Scott (Baltimore, Md./North Hagerstown HS) chipped in with 12 points and
Cierra Tourville (Manhattan, N.Y./Joppatowne HS) hauled in eight rebounds.
The Lady Panthers go to Frederick, Md. for a 5 p.m. game against Frederick Community College on Saturday, January 25th.
