ANNANDALE, VA. – The Baltimore City Community College women's basketball team edged Northern Virginia Community College 61-57 on Thursday night.
BCCC ended a two-game losing streak with the win and are now 15-7.
The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 10-4 lead before NOVA got back in the game. NOVA lead by eight late in the first half before two free-throws by
She'cquan Bailey (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill HS)cut the lead to six (36-32) going into halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Panthers stretched the lead to 12 (55-43) with 7:23 remaining in the game. The Lady Panthers went on a scoring drought over the next 4:00 minutes as NOVA chipped away at the lead cutting it to three (55-52) with 3:44 to go.
The Lady Panthers fought off the late run to secure the win.
For NOVA, Jasmine Orsted ended the game with 21 points and nine rebounds.
For the Lady Panthers,
Jamia Lawson (Baltimore, Md./Coppin Academy) posted a second consecutive double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds while adding two blocks.
Bailey had 11 points, eight assists, five rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Panthers will play their last game of the regular season in Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday, February 8
th against Community College of Philadelphia at 5 p.m.
