Box Score BALTIMORE, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to the #15 ranked team in the nation ASA College 77-73 in overtime on Sunday afternoon in the P.E. Center.
The Lady Raptors took an early lead scoring the first four points of the game before the Lady Panthers started to get into the flow of the game.
ASA lead by four in the closing minutes of the first quarter before BCCC cut the lead to one to close out the quarter by
Alyn Sankar (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood HS).
The second quarter was dead even and after 20:00 of play the Lady Panthers were only down by one after Cheridene Green split on a pair of free-throws with 0:14 left in before the half.
The score at halftime was 34-33 in favor of ASA.
In the third quarter the Lady Panthers scored only 11 points, but held the Lady Avengers to 21.7 percent from the field. The Lady Panthers were outrebounded 21-10.
Both teams only made five field goals in the quarter, but ASA was able to get to the free-throw line 10 times making only five.
Trailing 49-44 at the start of the fourth quarter, the lead went to 10 (61-51) with just over 5:00 to play in the game.
Lady Panthers went on an amazing 11-4 run to cut the lead to three (65-62) with 1:03 left in the game.
Brittany Hinton (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep HS) and Sakara Torres both split their pair of free-throws to keep the deficit to three with less than 0:30 to go.
The Lady Panthers brought the ball up the court only down three and as time was running out
She'cquan Bailey (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill HS) hit the game tying three-pointer with 0:04 seconds left that would eventually send the game into overtime.
In the overtime Bailey would score six of the team's seven points including a jump shot that tied the game at 73 with 0:44 left in the extra period. Diandra Darosa would go on to hit her next four free-throws to give the Lady Avengers the win.
For the Lady Raptors, Green finished with 28 points, 28 rebounds and five blocks and Mary Cuevas ended with 18 rebounds and eight points. Darosa had 23 points and five assists in the game.
Bailey led the Lady Panthers with 36 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.
Troniqua Black (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson HS) finished with 10 rebounds, nine points, four assists and four steals and
LaShay Stackhouse (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) had nine points and eight boards.
Brittany Hinton (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep HS) chipped in with nine points and four rebounds.
On Wednesday November, 18
th the Lady Panthers will host the Lady Cougars of Frederick Community College in the P.E. Center for Youth Day at 6 p.m.
General admission will be $5, $2 for BCPS and free admission for BCCC faculty, staff and students with valid I.D.
