Box Score MCHENRY, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College women's basketball team went down fighting all the way until the final buzzer sounded in the CARC Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon in the MD JUCO Championship game in a loss to Harford Community College 74-63.
BCCC fell behind early 27-12 in the first quarter which seemed to be the deciding factor in the game.
While the score seemed a little lopsided the stat sheet would show otherwise with both teams shooting over 45 percent in the quarter, but it was the shooting from behind the three-point that kept the Lady Panthers at bay.
The Lady Fighting Owls made 3-of-7 from long-range and went 6-of-11 from the free-throw line while the Lady Panthers failed to get to the line in the quarter.
The second quarter the Lady Panthers struggled from the field shooting 6-of-16 (37.5 percent). The Lady Panthers trailed at the break 48-29.
In the second half, the Lady Panthers just could not overcome the first quarter hole that they had dug themselves in.
Overall the Lady Panthers were in the thick of things with Lady Fighting Owls in nearly every category except for the final score.
The Lady Panthers defense held the Lady Fighting Owls to 28-of-73 (38.4 percent) from the field and forced them into 18 turnovers. The Lady Panthers also outrebounded the Lady Fighting Owls 48-45.
BCCC held the edge in points off of turnovers (18-13), bench points (15-2) and points in the paint (36-28).
Harford was led by, Mia Fitts with 24 points. Daisa Harris had 19 points and Darra Walker scored 11 points. Domonique Walker grabbed a game-high 21 rebounds, nine points, four blocks and three steals.
For BCCC,
Natasha Roy (Gambrills, Md./Arundel HS) led the charge with 18 points.
LaShay Stackhouse (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and
Courtney Crawford (Lanham, Md./Archbishop Carroll HS) had 11 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Panthers will host their final game on Thursday, February 25
th in the P.E. Center versus the Lady Fighting Owls of Harford Community College. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and the Lady Panthers will be having their Sophomore Night.
The game will also be for the Region XX Division I Championship.
General admission will be $8, $2 for BCPS and free admission for BCCC faculty, staff and students with valid I.D.
