The Panthers were back in action after the holiday break. They traveled up the road to Rockville to take on the Raptors of Montgomery College. The team was short handed and rusty. They were missing members of the team and it affected their chemistry and most notably their outside shooting. The Raptors were a much taller team and they took advantage on the boards, getting multiple second shot changes. The first half saw the Raptors get off to a quick start. They were able to score inside the paint with their height advantage. The also out-rebounded the Panthers on the opposite end limiting their opportunities. The half ended with the Panthers down by double figures.
The second half was much the same. The Panthers were not able to hit consistently from the outside and the size of the Raptors kept them from penetrating enough to reduce the deficit. The final score was 50 - 81. There were some individual performances of note. The team's leading scorer for much of the season, Sophomore
Carson Smith lead once again with 18 points on 7 for 12 shooting. He also made two free throws. Freshmen
Wendall Tomlin also had a good outing, putting up his third double-double on the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Another freshmen made his debut at the game. Albright Obode, was going to red shirt this season but decided he wanted to get into the action. In his first outing he scored 6 points and added 10 rebounds. The freshmen is 6-10 and has good instincts around the basket. The team will need definitely benefit from his height and rebounding ability as he gets more time on the floor.Â
The next game for the Panthers will be January 14 at the PE Center against Rhode Island Community College. The Game starts at 1:00 pm.
