Panthers Fall to Cougars

The BCCC Panthers took a tough loss today versus the Cougars of Frederick Community College. The final score was 88-77. After an emotional loss to Prince Georges CC Wednesday, the Panthers came out inspired initially, going on a strong 19-7 run to start the first half. During this time, the Panthers backcourt was on point defensively, as guards Carson Smith and Thomas Reid consistently disrupted the flow of offense for Frederick. Reid would start for Freshman Guard Jamal Lee, who was injured in the Prince Georges CC game; Thomas would finish with 7 points. As the half continued on, the depth issues the Panthers have been having all season, began to show as Frederick slowly crept back into the game, chipping away at any momentum BCCC had. Frederick would eventually take the lead headed into halftime.

The Second half had a similar outlook as recent games this season, with the Panthers struggling to maintain solid offensive attack for an entire contest. The Cougars would use depth and solid fundamental execution to maintain and grow their lead. There were moments where the Panthers would put together strong defensive possessions to trim the lead however, three-Point, and free throw shooting would allow Frederick to maintain their lead throughout the second half, and close out the Panthers. The loss moves the Panthers' record to 9-12.

Panthers Forward Wendall Tomlin continued to be a leading force for the Panthers, finishing the game with 19 points, 6 Rebounds, and a team high 3 steals. After a rough performance earlier this week, Sophomore Guard Carson Smith made his presence felt in today's game scoring 15 points, while also recording 5 assists.  Freshmen guard Jo-Nathan returned to the lineup after a lengthy injury sideline him for the past 5 games. He contributed 10 points to the effort. The Panthers will travel to take on Anne Arundel Community College this Tuesday, February 14th at 5 PM
