Box Score The first game in five years for the Panthers did not end well. The Dragons of Howard Community College defeated the new Panthers 65-47. The game was promoted as the grand new opening for Howard as they opened their new student center. Their fans and supporters came and made sure they were seen and heard throughout the game. The Panthers could not overcome the emotion of the Dragons their fans and the defense of the Dragons as they kept the Panthers from getting to the basket throughout the game. The Panthers tried valiantly throughout the contest.
Tannaya Willies lead all scores with 20 points. She hit three 3 pointers, two more field goals and added 7 at the charity stripe. She kept the Panthers close in the first half. Freshmen
Luv Barron gave the team a spark in the second half when she also put in a pair of three pointers. She along with Fellow Freshman
Madison Marshall scored 9 points.
The main difference in the game was rebounding and second chance points. Howard was able to out rebound the Panthers which ultimately resulted in second chance points. Those opportunities were the reason why the Dragons were able to outscore the Panthers even though neither team shot that well with the Panthers at 23% and the Dragons at 39% respectively.
The first regular season game since 2019 didn't go as well as the Panthers had hoped. However, the team showed signs of coming together as a unit. They fought hard and were not discouraged. A team with 12 freshmen who had never played with each other before will take time to jell. The next game for the Lady Panthers is Sunday November 3, at home in the PE Center on the campus of BCCC. They take on Montgomery College. The game will start at 1:00 pm.
