Panthers Fall Short Against Hawks 64-50

BALTIMORE, MD - Baltimore City Community College men's basketball hung around for stretches but never found enough rhythm to withstand Hagerstown's defensive pressure, falling 64–50 Saturday in Maryland JuCo action.

BCCC (0–4, 0–3) opened with energy, cutting an early deficit to 5–4 behind an Anthony Baker 3-pointer and an Antonio Fliggins free throw. But the Panthers struggled to protect the ball, and Hagerstown (2–0, 2–0) seized momentum with a 9–1 run built almost entirely off turnovers. The Hawks scored twice in transition in a 23-second span, including a fast-break layup and free throw from Michael Reyes that pushed the lead to 14–5 with 12:15 left in the first half.

Still, Baltimore City clawed back behind its bench. Adrean Walls, Motsumi Maayani and Shawn Nherisson combined to give the Panthers a spark, and BCCC trailed only 28–24 at the break despite committing 14 turnovers in the opening period.

Hagerstown gradually pulled away after halftime. Najeh Allen, who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, scored 12 of his points in the second half and repeatedly punished the Panthers inside. The Hawks' pressure remained the difference, converting 28 BCCC turnovers into 26 points.

Jamari Seri led the Panthers with 12 points, scoring 10 after halftime as he tried to keep BCCC within reach. Long added 11 points, and Jamar Payen had seven before fouling out with just over eight minutes remaining. Baker added four points and four steals as part of an active defensive effort.

The Panthers cut the margin to eight early in the second half, but every push was answered. Hagerstown held BCCC scoreless for a key three-minute stretch midway through the period while extending the lead to double digits, a cushion it never relinquished.

BCCC got 26 points from its bench but shot just 38 percent from the field and 2 of 14 from beyond the arc.

The Panthers will next host Prince George's Community College on Tuesday, November 25 at 7 PM.
