BALTIMORE, MD — Baltimore City Community College couldn't overcome Hagerstown's size and interior scoring, falling 78–39 at home Saturday in Maryland JuCo women's basketball action.
BCCC (0–5, 0–4) trailed 22–9 after the first quarter and never recovered as Hagerstown's frontcourt controlled the glass and the paint. The Hawks out-rebounded the Panthers 56–42 and outscored them 38–10 inside, building a lead that grew as large as 39 points in the third quarter.
Pashence Perry kept Baltimore City afloat early, scoring four first-quarter points and finishing with a team-high 13 on 6-of-20 shooting. She also grabbed seven rebounds.
Faziyah Williams added five points, including a first-quarter three, and
Promise Whitmore scored nine, hitting a three and going 2-for-4 at the line.
But the Panthers struggled to convert second chances despite pulling down 23 offensive rebounds. They shot just 22.4 percent from the field and 7-for-21 at the free-throw line. Hagerstown's defense forced 19 turnovers, six of them by Williams, and limited BCCC to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters.
Hagerstown (4–2, 2–0) leaned on a balanced attack. Andrea Elder posted a dominant 20-point, 13-rebound double-double with four blocks, while Briana King added 17 points and seven assists. Janae Bradley and Gabbie Ball each scored 12 as the Hawks shot 45.5 percent overall.
Baltimore City closed with its strongest stretch in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 points, led by Perry and Whitmore, but the deficit was too steep to chip away. The Panthers continue conference play next week when they host Prince George's Community College on Tuesday, November 25 at 5 PM.
