Box Score BALTIMORE, MD. - The Baltimore City Community College women's basketball team defeated Prince George's Community College 77-45 in the season opener for the home team. It also marked the first conference game as well.
The Lady Panthers (1-0, 1-0 MDJUCO) came out of the game cruising to a 15-3 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. The stingy defense of the Lady Panthers held the Lady Owls (2-2, 0-1 MDJUCO), to eight points for the rest of the half.
BCCC led Prince George's Community College 34-11 at the break.
In the second half, BCCC started slow going scoreless for the first three minutes being plagued by fouls and turnovers. The Lady Owls used a 16-4 run to cut the lead to 38-27. Eventually, the Lady Panthers put up 43 points in the second half to seal the deal and win handily 77-45.
For the Lady Owls Jaida Jenkins posted a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds and Markaila Carter had 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
The Lady Panthers were led by
Michelle Wright (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Wright also had three steals.
Jasmine Townes (Newark, N.J./West Side HS) scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds and
Danaira Duncan (Baltimore, Md./Coppin Academy) 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Breiona Garrison (Baltimore, Md./Carver Vo-Tech) contributed with seven boards and
Amia Howard (Baltimore, Md./Benjamin Franklin HS) led the team with five assists.
Tache Smothers (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) finished the game with eight points, six boards, four assists and three steals and
Alexis Wade (Raleigh, NC/Southeast Raleigh HS) had a game-high six steals.
The Lady Panthers will be in action again at home on Saturday, November 15
th at 3 p.m. and Sunday, November 16
th at 3 p.m. in the P.E. Center, as they will be hosting the Baltimore City Legends Classic.
The participating teams will be ASA College, Prince George's Community College and College of Southern Maryland.
The first game will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
General admissions for the weekend tournament will be $8, $2 for BCPS and free admissions for all BCCC faculty, staff and students with a valid I.D.
