Box Score BALTIMORE, MD – The Baltimore City Community College women's basketball team defeated Northern Virginia Community College on Tuesday night in the P.E. Center 92-39. The win gives BCCC the first team to 15 wins on the season for any team in the MD JUCO. BCCC is now 15-6.
The Lady Panthers jumped on NOVA early and often racing out to a 10-2 lead. NOVA was able to cut the lead to three with 14:05 in the opening half before the Lady Panthers orchestrated a 14-0 run to take a commanding 24-9 lead.
Going into the break BCCC outscored NOVA 28-6 after the score was 10-7 in favor of the Lady Panthers.
In the second half the Lady Panthers led by as much as 57 points. The Lady Panthers forced 39 turnovers and scored 35 points off of those turnovers. The Lady Panthers outscored NOVA in the paint 50-18.
NOVA was led by Bryana Coleman and Natalie Wright with 15 points and 11 points and seven rebounds respectively.
For the Lady Panthers,
Michelle Wright (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) posted her 13
th double-double of the year with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Wright shot a blistering 85 percent from the field (11-of-13) and also had eight steals in the game.
Tache Smothers (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim HS) finished the game with a career-high 19 points while adding nine assists, six rebounds, three steals and one block and
Asia Brittingham (Baltimore, Md./Friendship Academy) scored a career-high 17 points and five steals.
The Lady Panthers will travel to Christiana, Del. on Thursday, January 22
nd to face Delaware Tech Community College for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
