Dr. Cyril O. Byron, Sr. served as an administrator at the Community College of Baltimore (CCB) from 1976 to 1985. During his time at BCCC, Dr. Byron was the Athletic Director and retired as the Associate Dean of the Division of Natural Sciences, Health, and Physical Education.

Prior to coming to BCCC, Dr. Byron spent 23 years at Coppin State College (University), operating in many capacities including Chairman of the Science and Mathematics Department, Dean of Education, and President of the Faculty Senate.

Before he got his start in academia, Dr. Byron proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Force 99th Fighter Squadron, the first, and at the time the only, Black Air Force unit. The 99th Fighter Squadron is popularly known as the Red Tails.

Additionally, Dr. Byron was a sports official for football, basketball, and baseball for almost three decades. He was the first African-American referee to officiate Division I, I-AA, II, and III games and was inducted as a charter member into the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Official Hall of Fame and the Morgan State University Athletic Hall of Fame. Dr. Byron was married to the late Freda Jefferson for over 40 years and has two sons, Jeffrey and Cyril, Jr.
