John C. Rhames is undoubtedly the face of women’s basketball at the Community College of Baltimore (CCB) and later Baltimore City Community College (BCCC). He led the Red Devil women’s basketball team from 1978-2000 compiling a 456-231 record along the way.

Under Rhames, the Red Devils won three Maryland JUCO (MD JUCO) Conference Tournaments, five Region XX Championships, and made five appearances in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Women’s Tournament. He was named MD JUCO Coach of the Year on three occasions and Region XX Coach of the Year five times. Rhames graduated from CCB in 1971 with an associate’s degree in recreational leadership. He earned his next two degrees from the University of Baltimore, finishing his bachelor’s in urban recreation in 1973 and his master’s in the same field in 1978.

In 2007, Rhames was inducted into the BCCC Athletics Hall of Fame for all of his accomplishments. Currently, he is an adjunct professor in the Allied Health Department. Rhames and wife Daisy have six children: Lorraine, Nieta, Tonya, John, Corey and Eric.
